Happy new year everyone! We had a great year, had some boss times and met some amazing people.
After a delayed start to 2011 due to family circumstances, we cracked on and began our gigging in May, starting with a packed headline gig in Telford, followed by another packed gig in Liverpool the following night (the crowd were bouncing so hard we could feel the stage bending below our feet!). We then hit the road for again for another good headline gig at the Loughborough Punk Club, before headlining the 2nd stage at Liverpool’s Snub Festival! A mainstage appearance at the annual Joe Strummer tribute festival ‘Strummercamp’ was followed by local gigging in June and a few weeks off in July before we headed out on the road for a mini-tour with our very good friends The Roughneck Riot, most of which was spent sleeping on floors and in cupboards at the Brahaha house, and trying to stop Tramp (the Brahaha dog) from escaping! August saw us support the New Town Kings before heading into the studio to record ‘Ten Percent’ for a compilation by our record label Do The Dog Music, which was released later in the year. Train delays caused us to miss our slot at Solfest, but we spent the time in the studio writing ‘Supremacy’ which we debut’d at monthly ‘Absolutely Spannered’ gig the following night, probably the best gig of the year, with Roughneck Riot, Faintest Idea and Barney making it a night we’ll never forget; walking back to Braha singing Lion songs through the streets of Warrington in the early hours, Faintest Idea’s trombone player sleep-pissing on Roughneck’s floor before being coloured in and having his dreadlocks chewed on by Tramp!
September saw us hit the road again, we headed to Swansea where we played probably our best set to date, then onto Nottingham with East London dub warriors The Skints, where we let ourselves down performance-wise but still had a boss time with a sold-out crowd (the walls were sweating, no joke!). The following week we played our first home-town gig since June, at a packed out Zoo Bar in St Helens with our old friends the John Player Specials. We did a few birthday gigs and supported Random Hand and the Inner Terrestrials, before our gig with The Selecter being cancelled due to a mix up with the promoter, then our gig with Goldblade was cancelled when the venue closed just days before the gig. We finished up 2011 with gigs in Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Chesterfield before having a break over Christmas.
Now, 2012, we’ve just headed back into rehearsals with our new brass section. Jon Hughes our old trumpet player has returned to Liverpool after working in China for a year, he’s joined by Rob Price on trombone. Guitarist Joe will be leaving us shortly to concentrate on his course, so we’re in the process of auditioning a new guitarist before we begin gigging in February, in what promises to be our most exciting year yet!
One love x
Our new tune from the “This Are Ska! Vol 4” Compilation due out on Do The Dog Records in the near future!
